Dr Stephen Hitchin

BSc (Hons) (Lond) MB ChB (Sheff) DMCC MRCGP (UK) FRCGP (UK) FRACGP FRSPH FRGS FRAS FRSA FLS General Practitioner

Dr Hitchin is an experienced General Practitioner who has been practising medicine for more than 19 years. He has worked in Australia since 2018 and has developed a strong connection with Caboolture and the local community.

Originally trained in the United Kingdom, with additional medical and training experience in other countries including the United States and Latin America, Dr Hitchin has broad clinical experience across general practice, emergency and urgent care medicine, paediatrics, mental health, infectious diseases, general medicine and a range of other medical and surgical specialties.

Dr Hitchin previously served as a Medical Officer in the Armed Forces and is currently applying to serve again as a Medical Officer in the Australian Army Reserve.

Dr Hitchin is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Royal College of General Practitioners in the UK, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. He holds the Diploma in the Medical Care of Catastrophes and is nearing completion of a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. In 2027, he will undertake further postgraduate study in Disaster and Terror Medicine at the University of Melbourne and is developing plans for future doctoral research.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Hitchin has a strong commitment to medical education. He teaches and supervises doctors, including GPs who have recently relocated to Australia, and has supported medical services in Caboolture and regional Queensland. He has also previously held elected public office.

He enjoys the breadth and continuity of general practice and aims to provide holistic, compassionate care that considers the whole person rather than simply an individual condition. His particular interests include diagnostic medicine, chronic disease management, infectious diseases, public health, mental health, paediatrics, sports medicine, veterans’ health, longevity medicine and preventative healthcare.

Dr Hitchin speaks both English and Spanish.

Outside medicine, he is married, a proud father of five sons and a grandfather. He enjoys boxing, keeping fit, reading and continuing to learn throughout his life.
